Supernormal Festival

Delighted to run my Sustainable Knits workshop for the first time at the Supernormal Festival, Braziers Park, Oxfordshire.

Sustainable Knits, explored both feminist and anti-capitalist issues. Suitable for all abilities, the experimental knitting workshop focused on creating artwork using simple methods. The session included demonstration of basic knitting techniques, worksheets and samples and sketchbooks to inspire further exploration.

  • Making yarns from recycled materials, i.e. newspaper, strips of fabric and plastic bags

  • Knitting slits, holes and slashes to symbolise broken systems

  • Patching and darning to represent mental healing

The workshop had a good turn-out with approximately 14 attendees and drop-ins during the hour long session.

Braziers Park in rural Oxfordshire is part of an alternative artistic community, and also the former home of Marianne Faithfull (Mick Jagger once visited!). I so enjoyed being part of this vibrant, alternative arts and music festival, and also have the opportunity to take part in a few artistic workshops during my free time!
