Delighted to have completed work on the Mobile Knitted Orchard at the International Quarter London site near Queen Elizabeth Park. The knitted pieces are scheduled to be on display until April 2023.
Inspired by the surrounding architecture, the hand knitted pieces feature a range of geometric and stripped patterns. Celebrating colour, the work combines the bold IQL Stratford brand colours (magenta, orange, blue and green), in a variety of scales and configurations, while using counter change to balance the colours. Knitting is a numerical art form – with many of the pieces based on lucky numbers such as 7 and 8, or numbers significant to the local area, 12 and 20.The series combines both bespoke pieces to fit the tree trunks, and strips of knitting designed to meander through the branches.
Several pieces mix old knitwear with new knitting, to show both the beauty of patching and darning, plus the creative possibilities of recycled knitwear.
