Sit - Stitch - Stuffed

I greatly enjoyed leading a workshop at the Mutrend Lab, as part of Southampton Pride on 25th August 2018. The event organised by the K6 gallery forms part of the Stuffed exhibition, with Rachel Sheldrake and myself.

Sit, Stitch, Stuffed explored the creative potential of textiles for art and sculpture. Inspired by the Stuffed exhibition, the workshop examined ways of making soft sculptures using simple techniques and unconventional materials.

-Knitting with unconventional materials (garden twine, wire or string), and making your own yarn from strips of fabric, paper or plastic -Creating grids and knitted open structure - Experimental stuffing for soft sculpture (shredded paper, plant matter, natural fibres, etc)

-Combining textiles with sculptural materials, including latex, plaster, unfired clay or wax.

The session finished with a chilled-out drop in session, where attendants could learn crochet and make their own colourful rainbow piece.
