It is great to be back at the Leyden Gallery, running a third creative knitting workshop inspired by feminist ideals.
The workshop uses the body as the source of inspiration, to create three dimensional pieces using simple techniques and multiples.
Three dimensional methods, including using double pointed and circular needles.
Choice of yarn, ie using a stiff yarn (fine knitting wire, twine, string, paper yarn), will automatically create a rigid structure.
Stuffing, the choice of stuffing can also become part of the artwork (shredded paper, protruding coarse fibres, fabric).
Felting the knit, using a wet or needle felted technique
We also looked at ways of using a heat gun to melt the textile to create interesting decayed effects, or coating the textile with latex, acrylic gels and other materials to create a visceral look.
