Body Bits Knits

It is great to be back at the Leyden Gallery, running a third creative knitting workshop inspired by feminist ideals.

The workshop uses the body as the source of inspiration, to create three dimensional pieces using simple techniques and multiples.

  • Three dimensional methods, including using double pointed and circular needles.

  • Choice of yarn, ie using a stiff yarn (fine knitting wire, twine, string, paper yarn), will automatically create a rigid structure.

  • Stuffing, the choice of stuffing can also become part of the artwork (shredded paper, protruding coarse fibres, fabric).

  • Felting the knit, using a wet or needle felted technique

We also looked at ways of using a heat gun to melt the textile to create interesting decayed effects, or coating the textile with latex, acrylic gels and other materials to create a visceral look.
