Really excited to be one of the artists selected to take part in the Block Chain> The Power of Two project. The project organised by Chapel Arts Studios, is an collaborative online week running from the 9th January to 8th March. A group of 14 artists, communicate in pairs to produce individual, yet interconnected work, probing the theme of ‘dissent’.
Working in Block VI with artist Fran Kelly, together we have explored a range of themes including feminism, reality vs fantasy, making art from topics which make us angry, and the Shakesphere character, Ophelia from Hamlet. My own particular dissent explores period poverty and capitalism. The project has helped me to contextualise the issue, and consider new ways of making art and exploring the subject matter, both inspired by own and the other blocks.
The project culminated in a one day symposium at Winchester School of Art, where the attendees had the opportunity to learn more about the project, the meaning of dissent and the artist's work.
